Tips to Create Volume in Hair

By Redmund at 2009-08-14 04:28:43
Many women with fine hair have difficulties with creating fullness, and building volume without having to chop it all off. There are some great tips that I have learned over the years to help keep your hair looking healthy and beautiful, as well as make your thin locks look thicker.

Here is a great way to add fullness without having to actually cut your strands. Make sure you use voluminous or moisturizing shampoo and conditioner while you shower. There are also intensive moisture treatments to prevent heat damage, and keeps your hair looking healthy and beautiful. Now, After you get out of the shower, apply a small amount of gel or mousse to your locks, and when you are about to dry it do this:

1. Take your hair and flip it so that you have a dramatic side part on one side of your head. Dry the roots of your strands that are exposed.

2. Flip your locks to the other side of your head, so now you have another large side part. Dry your exposed roots again.

3. Flip your head upside down, and dry the roots at the nape of your neck.

4. Dry the rest of your hair right side up, but use a round brush to style it how you want.

If you have thin hair layered hairstyles will allow you to incorporate more air into your hair giving you the illusion of volume. These hairstyles will also give your hair more texture and depth. This will allow you to create hairstyles that will make you look like your hair is thicker than it actually is.

There are layered hairstyles for short hair, medium length hair and long hair. If you have short hair then the shag is a great option. For medium length hair the Friends haircut was a very popular option. Today you can get an updated version of this haircut. If you have long hair a layered hairstyle is a great way to reduce the amount of weight that is pulling down on your scalp, and it is a great way to give your hair shape and dynamics.

While layered hairstyles work well for just about everyone, you need to know what hair care products to use to keep this style looking chic. If you have wavy or curly hair you will want to use a frizz control, curl control, and/or curl enhancers to keep your curls and waves defined. If you have straight hair you will want to make sure that you use the right shampoo, conditioner and styling products to keep your hair healthy and to protect it from styling damage.

It is important to use a little gel or mousse ahead of time before you dry your locks to keep it from being damaged, and to maintain your fullness and style throughout the entire day. You can also use products before you dry that are specifically made to protect from heat damage, excessive dryness, and will maintain moisture. If you use this volume creating method, your locks should definitely see an added fullness, shine, and a healthy look. You should be able to develop volume without having to cut any of your strands. Your fine hair doesn't have to be limp anymore, so give it a try!
